Simon Grayson has been appointed the new manager of Huddersfield Town after signing a three-and-a-half-year deal.

Huddersfield have been searching for a new manager since the sacking of Lee Clark last week.

Talks were held between Grayson and Huddersfield over the weekend and the 42-year-old has agreed to take up the role at the Galpharm Stadium.

And Grayson admitted he was forced to take a hit in the pocket to take the Town job.

He told the Yorkshire Post: ‘After receiving a call on Friday to say Huddersfield were interested, I then met the chairman on Sunday night and was immediately impressed by what he had to say.

‘To be honest, I didn’t have much intention to come back into football as quickly and fancied some time off. But after speaking to Dean, I decided I wanted this job.

‘So, I got in touch with Leeds as there were still a few things that needed sorting out before I could join another club. We came to an agreement as Leeds wanted it done and I just wanted to get on with the rest of my career.

‘It meant I had to take a bit of a hit financially compared to what I was entitled. But I thought that was a price worth paying to take on a challenge that really excites me.’

Chairman Dean Hoyle is aware that not all supporters are happy about a former Leeds boss taking the reins.

He said: ‘I am not ignorant to the fact that some supporters may question Simon’s appointment given his history at Leeds United but I will tackle that head on.

‘It was all about getting the best man for the job and Simon ticks all the boxes. He has a history of success at this level with both Blackpool and Leeds, he has a point to prove following his departure from Leeds, and having met him on Sunday night I know he has the fire in his belly to lead Huddersfield Town into the Championship.’

I know best, says dictator chairman.. let’s see……….

This is terrific appointment for huddersfield, grayson was a fine manager for my beloved leeds and i was mad at his loss will follow his career with interest and hope he returns to leeds to finish the job he started just have to wait till we get an owner with vision and loyalty rather than a money grabbing, well wont finish that phrase.

Huddersfield have got themselves a good manager in Grayson. He will do well for them as he did for Leeds until he had the rug pulled from under him!

Well yeah he is better than Lee Clark coz Lee Clark has never got any team promoted where mr Grayson has got 2 teams promoted so err yeah he is ????

Is he really any better a manager than Lee Clark?????

leeds loss is hudderfields gain and i am sure he will do well away from ken bates who never gave him the support he deserved

Wait till he signs the dotted line remember Phil Parkinson

Clark was sacked because he couldnt do what Grayson has done twice……promotion from league 1. Good luck Simon!

As a Bradfod fan it pains me to see Hudders leeds doing well (although Leeds not that much). Grayson would be a fine appointment, although I can’t see why Clarke was sacked in the first plac…
