Choosing a West Highland White Terrier as a Companion
When we initial held site of Oliver, my West Highland White Terrier, we was smitten. Oliver wasn’t usually existent in his pet emporium cage, he was romping around perplexing to motivate a other sleeping puppies (who weren’t Westies) into play mode. we spent a subsequent 5 mins or so examination in delight his relentless though invalid attempts to stir a pack. we desired his verve.
My strange reason for a revisit to a pet emporium was to squeeze a cockatiel for a reason of companionship. we was vital alone in an unit during that time and suspicion a whistling bird with some impression could be a ideal messenger for me–but there weren’t any Cockatiels for purchase. That’s when my attention–just for some amusement–lingered over to a puppies.
we didn’t even know what multiply Oliver was until we asked a shopkeeper. This good sensitive worker relayed all a standard behaviors of a Westie multiply and from what we heard–it sounded like we would be a good match. Fiesty, robust, loyal, can be a picky eater, and likes to be on their feet. we remember thinking, “But I’m not here for a puppy”.
Before we knew it, we was alone with him in one of those private rooms. we remember seeking myself, “Do we wish to do this”? The answer came swiftly, and intuitively a name Oliver flooded my consciousness. As this 10 week aged white smoke of fur nibbled on my fingers he became cave in heart and mind. we done a joining to love, caring and live with this small muscular life. we whispered in his ear, “Okay Oliver, I’m gonna take we home and we and we are going to be best friends forever”.
The subsequent difference out of my mouth to a shopkeeper were “Round adult all I’ll need to take Oliver home and make him comfortable”. The whole process–which took usually about 5 mins to make–has lasted, so far, 6 years. Hopefully, another 9 years of pity life with Oliver will follow, as a life but Oliver isn’t comprehensible.
I’m married now, and we have another dog named Buddy, who is a Rottweiler. Yet, to this day Oliver stays my best friend–where ever we go, Oliver goes. Where ever we sit, Oliver sits. When ever we go to bed, Oliver goes to bed. Unless Oliver is outward doing his pursuit of examination over a property, he is inside available my subsequent move.
Oliver lived adult to be all that emporium screw pronounced he would be and more. Oliver hikes, swims, and loves to fake he is pushing a car. we know my preference that day to take Oliver home was impulsive–and guileless preference creation in regards to animals can be a really dangerous mix. But Oliver and we are explanation that infrequently we usually have to accept on faith a smashing surprises a star throws in your trail when we set out to hunt for a right companion.
